In the beginning I was in my bed reading a book when my mother called me for lunch. Later we ran and played. Later we got tired and we sat in the gazebo In the middle of the Cypress Pond with tree knees. In the afternoon we had a feast.
Afterward, we were with Chloe and she was telling us about disease. We hadn’t known much about fevers and, we hadn’t known would happen if we caught it.

Dear Diary, Hearing the rooster crowing, I suddenly got up, got dressed in my high-necked purple day- dress, brushed my teeth, and went downstairs for breakfast. I had porridge with a tall glass of fresh milk. After breakfast I had to go to school. I quietly walked to the schoolroom where I found James and Cornelia Gale patiently waiting for me to begin. After school I played dolls with my sister Cornelia. After playing dolls, I saw Chloe listening-in on my parent’s conversation. Chloe said,” There is a disease called ‘Yellow Fever’ and your brother and sister are looking a little sick.” Dinner was a little quiet. For dinner we had rice and gravy, turkey, corn, and water. For desert we had cake and pudding. When dinner was over Chloe helped me take my bath and get ready for bed. I soundly dreamt about sailing in a steamboat to New Orleans and I will wake up to a new day tomorrow. Yours Truly, Octavia
